DUBAI--DAY 2

Monday, April 22nd
Our balcony faces the ocean and when I opened the drapes this morning it was beautiful and did not appear hazy.  I later saw it was over the city so photos not as good as I would like.  After working out this morning we caught the shuttle bus to the Dubai Mall.  You would not believe it.  1200 stores with every American company represented plus lots of international ones.  I was also amazed with all the American restaurants.  You would think you were in LA, NYC, or Dallas.  There were some unique attractions in the mall:  huge aquarium that you could walk through a tunnel in middle of it, waterfalls, ice skating rink, movie threatre, and on back side there was a huge pool of water with fountains (at night the water would shoot up 300 feet in air with colored light show).  Amazingly, I lasted an hour in the mall before crying to go back to the ship.  Rebecca is never in shopping mood with me along so we caught shuttle back to ship.
After having a blackened chicken caesar salad and ice tea from room service, I brought both of my laptops into the cruise terminal (it is a very nice one) as the wifi internet is much faster than on ship.  There a several crew members in here using it also as they have to pay on the ship.  I get it free but it is very slow onboard.
We sail at 6pm for Doha, Qatar.  Tonight we have 7pm reservations at Prime 7 (steakhouse).  We are turning our clocks back another hour tonight so will then be 8 hours difference than Dallas.  I really liked Dubai.  It was clean, had all the American stores & restaurants, and was very modern.  No taxes on anything and gasoline is less than $2 a gallon.  Our guide yesterday said a 4 bedroom condo on water was from 1 to 3 million dollars.  Actually not a bad price.  After retiring 5 years ago now I thought about coming here and flying for Emirates Airlines but Rebecca would not come here for the 2 year contract.  I could have been a B777 captain and the money was tax free here and in US.  She assured me today we are NOT moving here now either.
Patrol ship-not sure if it was ours or theirs
                                                Heading to Dubai Mall

World's largest mall--Every shop that are in US malls plus more.  About every US restaurant inside too.

There were lots of Americans in the mall plus people from all over the world.
The aquarium in the mall.  There was also an ice skating rink and theatre.

Not really leaning but tower is over 2700 feet high.
Not sure what this building was.

At night there is a water and light show from this fountain.

                                                               Candy
Not a very good photo but this is a "Texas Roadhouse" restaurant.
                                                          Waterfall in the mall.

Ceiling in one of the mall atriums.
We were told NOT to take photos of the Arab women so I got this one by acting like I was taking photo of Rebecca.  All you could see of this woman was her eyes.  Most of the Arab women are not covering their faces however.  Not sure why some do and some don't.

Ray, our Cruise Director, was on our shuttle bus both ways.  Appears he bought something.
Sorry for all the photos of Dubai's skyline but it is incredible.

                                                              Goodbye Dubia!
