MUMBAI DAY 2

Thursday, April 18th
Today is end of a cruise segment and beginning of the next so most passengers leaving and new ones arriving all day.  They had a special highlights tour leaving this morning for those of us staying aboard.  There were 3 buses and ours had about 20 people on it.  We knew all of them.  As you knew I was not able to get a blog posting on yesterday due to internet problems.  Seems everyone wanted to be online their last day and we had what turned out to be a 6 hour tour to Elephanta Island.  Ran longer than supposed to!  I was about to get that posted this morning at 8am but they turned the internet off for the end of segment.  When we got back from the tour at 1:30, I got to work and finished that post and got today's photos on next post.  Will wait until tomorrow to publish it so you won't have too much at one time.  Our next two days are sea days anyway.  It is 6pm now and our cruise director just made a PA that 480 guests are just arriving as they have been on a pre-cruise trip to the Taj Mahal.  Their luggage is coming in bonded truck from the airport so they will not have their luggage for hours.  We were suppose to sail at 7pm but no way!
I hope I don't seem to be stuck up but hope these new passengers are good ones.  By that I mean, NOT BITCHERS and ones who treat the crew nicely.  We had good ones last segment.  We will miss Hollis and Patsy, our next door neighbors who were from San Antonio.  Very nice folks!!
Better get ready for cocktail hour and dinner to follow.  Tomorrow I will have interesting information about where we are going next and how dangerous it may be.  Think you will want to hear this.  It is very pleasant out on out balcony this evening so having a glass of vino there as sun is setting.  Someone has to do this!!

                                                              Train station

Hard to tell but market here and trucks are unloading.

                                                     interesting looking building
Road along Arabian Sea with skyline in background.

Road along beach.  Arabian Sea is the water.

Not sure what this is but looked interesting.  Appears to be a temple.
Hindu temple.  78% of people here are Hindu and 11% are Muslim.

                                                          Temple grounds
Women threading flowers on string to be hung in temple.

Everywhere we stopped there were people trying to sell us stuff plus beggars.
                                                    Plaque outside of Ghandi' house

Copies of letters from Ghandi to Hitler, Pres Roosevelt, and others.

                                                    Outside of Ghandi's house

Just a old building that seemed to be propped up.

Cow's are sacred animal in India so they go where ever they want.  This one in mid Mumbai.
                                                                     Temple
                                                         "Hanging Gardens"
                                                        Another garden shot
                                                          Still in garden

World's largest laundry.  Clothes brought here from all classes of people all over Mumbai.  They pick it up, wash, dry, iron, and return in 3 days.
Clothes are hand washed in the concrete tubs pictured here and hung to dry.

                                                     Amazing laundry!!

This is one of the laundry runners
Old and new forms of transportation in Mumbai

                                                                       Market
Beach photos, but they do not sun bath so go to beach in evenings.

Because cows are sacred, Mc Donalds does not sell hamburgers in India.  Chicken or vegetarian burgers.
