Some photos of Villefranche as we sailed into the small bay. Just 6 miles west of Monte Carlo and outside of Nice.
This is the Celebrity Eclipse which is anchored just outside of us. They were a big help to our ship as it was blocking the big swells coming in from the sea. We were barely able to get back on the ship as our tender was bobbing like a cork next to gangway as we were coming back on board. Very lucky no one was hurt.
The area from St Tropez to just past Monaco is known as the "Blue Coast".
Due to the Monaco Grand Prix they would not let us dock in Monte Carlo. We are anchored in to bay of Villefranche just west of Monte Carlo and closer to Nice. The Cannes Film Festival was also this week so the place was crawling with movie stars, hundreds of very nice yachts, and expensive cars. Our ship's tours were not allowed into Monte Carlo do the all the traffic. We did drive on upper road over looking it.
Passed through here on way to our tour bus.
15th century castle at the port.
Overlooking Villefranche as we climbed mountain on way east to Monaco.
Bay where our ship and the Celebrity ship was anchored.
Changing of the guard at Monaco's "Prince's Palace". We were not allowed here today but added these photos from our visit here in the fall of 2011.
"Cathedral of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception" in Monaco where Prince Rainier and Grace Kelley were married in 1956. They are both buried here now.
Casino in Monte Carlo--James Bond movies "Never Say Never Again" and "Golden Eye" filmed here. "To Catch a Thief" (1954) by Alfred Hitchcock starring Cary Grant and the future Princess Grace of Monaco, was also filmed here. Borrowed this photo from internet. We were not allowed down in Monte Carlo today. Rest of the photos below were taken today.
This is old Monaco with Palace and Cathedral are.
Gardens but our tour did not go in.
Marker showing boundary line between Monaco and France. Monaco is the second smallest country in the world. Vatican City is smallest.
Bus is climbing mountain to visit the small village of Eze. It is the perfume capital of France.
Narrow streets of Eze. You can not get cars up here.
View from Eze
Now driving back down mountain to go to Nice. Nice villa with terraced tract for growing their vegetables.
Over looking Nice
France's second largest airport is here in Nice and there were hundreds of yachts here also.
Beaches are not sand but small pebble beaches
We drove though some of Nice do some sight seeing.
The villa with white top and reddish bottom belongs to Sean Connery. It over looks Nice.
