PORTO, PORTUGAL

Saturday, May 25th

                                                               Last night's full moon

                                                         View from our balcony
As we left the pier yesterday evening in Lisbon one of our mooring lines fell into the water and Captain did not know where it went.  Fearing it may be wrapped around one of our azipods (propellers), he returned to the pier.  We had a 4 hour delay as divers had to be called to go down under the ship and see where the line was.  All was well so off we went again.  Now instead of arriving in next port, Porto, at 9am, we will be arriving at 12:30pm.
Ever since arriving here in the Atlantic Ocean we have been rocking and rolling big time.  Last night and this morning has been worse.  The Captain said this was unusually rough for this time of the year in this area of ocean.  Hopefully, it will improve the further north we go.
I managed to make good use of the time at sea this morning.  Both of my laptops' hard drives were about full so I took them down to Simon, the ship's internet manager, to see if he could help me out.  He helped me by downloading a "c drive cleanup" program and running it.  Now have extra 4GB of space.  He also showed me how to put photo link on the blog so now all you have to do is click on it.  No more cutting and pasting!
We were to do a 4 hour "Highlights of Porto" tour but have decided to just take the shuttle bus into town and see it on our own.  We have a 4:30pm appointment with the future cruise sales person and would have missed it if we took the tour.  We want to discuss a Baltic cruise for the summer of 2014.  It is actually 4 segments for a total of 48 days.
Porto is the second largest city in Portugal with a population of 250,000.  The metropolitan area has a total of 1.7 million.  The city is named for one of Portugal's famous exports, port wine.  On my shuttle ride I was not impressed with the city.  It looks just like typical European city.  I got a few photos but only spent 10 minutes off the bus then right back to the ship.

Position at noon, Porto in Portugal

Took shuttle bus to this section of town.  On the way Porto looked like any other European city.  Nothing caught my eye.

Park across from where shuttle bus stopped

                                                                    Street shops

Tile on side of the church

                                                  Old fortress over looking port
Beach but it was cold wind off water so not many out
                                                       Not sure what this is--"art"?
